The classification of tourist accommodations into star categories is an institutionalized process carried out in accordance with the current regulatory framework of the Ministry of Tourism.

The evaluation process ensures that a tourist accommodation meets specific standards regarding infrastructure, facilities, services, and the level of service corresponding to the star rating it seeks to obtain.

Classification is a prerequisite for the legal operation and promotion of hotel establishments. The competent authority for issuing the classification certificate is the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, following an inspection by an accredited certification body, which conducts the inspection and evaluation of the tourism establishment

Who is it intended for?

The certification is intended for hotels and hotel complexes
that wish to:

  • obtain an initial classification,
  • renew their star rating,
  • have their classification re-evaluated.
What does the assessment include?

The process includes:

· inspection of facilities and infrastructure,
· evaluation of services provided,
· verification of mandatory standards,
· evaluation of scoring criteria,
· preparation of an inspection report.

The final star rating is determined by compliance with the mandatory criteria and the achievement of the required score.
